Hummus

Hummus or houmous is a Levantine food dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. Today, it is popular throughout the Middle East (including Turkey), North Africa (including Morocco), and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe. In my recipe, i am not using any of the pungent foods.

Ingredients

A can of cooked chickpeas of 400g - drained and rinsed a bit.
2 - 3 Tbsp of Tahini (i used ready roasted sesame seeds)
Juice from 1/2 lemon
Any vegetable oil (last step)
Salt
1 Tbsp of Cumin powder

Method

Lightly blend the chickpeas in a blender and add a little of water at a time. Next add in the rest of the ingredients. Adjust the salt to your taste, even if you want more cumin powder. Last incorporate the oil into the batter slowly at a time to obtain a smooth creamy paste.

Voila, your hummus is ready. You can store in a glassware, cover with a plastic film and keep in the fridge. Mine has already been in the fridge for like 2 weeks, and today is still doing good. But for precaution, to take note of changes each time before you want to taste it. Hummus can dip or spread it on bread like peanut butter.
